Booking a hotel is very easy. But finding the right hotel? It took us forever! If you are a tourist in Hong Kong, people say that it is best to book a hotel between Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok. But depending on your itinerary, you might consider other areas. For me, the most important thing is that the hotel is very near MTR stations, restaurants or food stalls and convenient stores. Of course, you should also make sure you feel safe in the area, its surroundings, and the building itself.
So, which part to stay in? The Kowloon area or The Hong Kong Island?
If you stay in Kowloon, the Tsim Sha Tsui part of Kowloon is probably the area of Kowloon that most tourists seem to prefer. Many of the Kowloon tourist attractions are located in this neighborhood. It is also near to Mongkok, which many people would feel has a more "local" feeling - that is, less tourists compared to Tsim Sha Tsui and more local people and street life (the ladies market, sneakers streets etc.) If you stay on Hong Kong Island, I would recommend staying in Causeway Bay or the neighborhood called Central.
But, regardless of whether you stay in Kowloon or Hong Kong Island, as long as you are relatively near the MTR station then you are fine because the public transportation is quite convenient in Hong Kong. It will take you anywhere you need to go.
For the hotel, If you are on a tight budget, you will be happy to know that there are a lot of budget hotels in Hong Kong. There are a huge number of hotels in Hong Kong and with so many to choose from, it can be really hard to decide where you should stay.
